VILLA PRESIDENTE FREI
A LANDMARK IN SOCIAL HOUSING

Villa Frei, located in Ñuñoa, Santiago, is a residential complex designed by Jaime and Osvaldo Larraín and Diego Balmaceda, built between 1965 and 1968. This project aimed to provide an integral housing solution, covering 40 hectares that include green areas and public spaces.

The architecture of Villa Frei is defined by its modern language, featuring buildings of various typologies (towers, duplexes, and houses) constructed with reinforced concrete and masonry. The design prioritized community-building, with a central park that organizes the complex and fosters neighborhood life.

Recognized for its architectural, urban, and social value, the first stage of Villa Frei was declared a Protected Historic Zone in 2015. The complex represents a milestone in the history of social housing in Chile, standing out for its scale, design, and focus on the quality of life of its residents.
