SAN MIGUEL OPEN-AIR MUSEUM
MURALISM AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Born from a neighborhood initiative in the early 2010s, it has transformed building facades in the San Miguel district into a vibrant artistic canvas. Driven by the community and local and international artists, the museum has produced over 60 large-scale murals that engage with the identity and history of the neighborhood.
This urban art project aims to democratize access to culture and revitalize public spaces, turning the streets into an accessible gallery for all. Each mural tells a story, reflects social themes, or pays tribute to important figures for the community. The diversity of styles and techniques in the artworks showcases the rich creativity of the contemporary muralist movement.
The San Miguel Open-Air Museum is not just a collection of murals but a driver of community gathering and a catalyst for urban transformation. Through guided tours and cultural activities, it promotes public space ownership and strengthens social fabric, demonstrating the power of art to create positive change in the city.
