ONTEMPORARY ART MUSEUM (MAC)
THE SPACE OF THE AVANT-GARDES
The building housing the main headquarters of the MAC was originally constructed for the Palace of Fine Arts, inaugurated in 1910 on the occasion of the International Exhibition. Its design is the work of architect Emile Jéquier, who gave it a French neoclassical style with influences of Art Nouveau and Beaux-Arts, similar to the main building of the National Museum of Fine Arts with which it shares the structure.
Although the building has existed since 1910, it was not until 1947 that the MAC was officially established within this structure, coexisting with the MNBA. Its collection focuses on Chilean and international art from the mid-20th century to the present, covering various disciplines such as painting, sculpture, photography, video, and installations. The museum is characterized by its focus on new trends, experimental art, and the promotion of emerging artists, as well as presenting works by Latin American and international creators.
The MAC Parque Forestal develops an active program of temporary exhibitions, seminars, and other activities that seek to generate a dynamic dialogue between art and the public.
